How To Change Wifi Frequency On Android 7

  1. slider547's Avatar

After getting into settings, wi-fi information technology says to Tap Advanced > Wi-Fi frequency band. Select the desired radio band. None of the suggestions apply to this phone. Later on following the initial steps. there is no 'frequency ring to tap' or way to change bands. I already went into the router on my desktop and it confirms connection to 5.0 simply no fashion to alter information technology. I am trying to connect to smart domicile devices which require 2.4. Open to suggestions. cheers

Welcome to Android Central! So simply to be clear -- y'all want the smart dwelling devices to connect to your home wi-fi organisation over 2.four GHz, and you can't become the router to broadcast in ii.four GHz? Or are you trying to connect your phone to the smart dwelling device direct via wi-fi? Commonly, smart home devices need to connect to your home wi-fi system.

You tin can't set the telephone to employ one band or the other. You tin can't turn off the 5 GHz ring or 2.4 GHz band independently. That'southward just the way it is.

On the other paw, all devices, regardless of which band they are continued to as long every bit it'due south the same router, should see each other.

If you desire devices connected to specific bands on the router, you need to requite each ring a singled-out SSID. For example, on my router, I have the SSID I've used for years on the 2.4 band. But, I added a "-v" to the name for the five band. If both bands utilise the aforementioned SSID, then devices volition connect to whichever is the stronger connection that information technology sees. It will non brand a stardom.

Simply, again, if all devices are on the same router, it shouldn't matter. My devices can all see each other (if they are supposed to) regardless of which band they are connected to. My son's PC with an older 2.4 GHz only Wi-Fi adaptor can meet the printer on my PC connected via the five GHz ring.

I accept gone into the router-network but I cannot detect anything that tin can exist changed other than turning guest wifi off or on. I understand what you are saying about the SSID, but I cannot see where to do this. I practise apologize If I am not articulate. I am far from beingness an expert, but I am pretty good at following step past step directions. But none of the ones I have been following accept worked. Appreciate your suggestions.

The router does broadcast ii.4, but my Smart Home App that is required for the Smart Plug is not finding it.

Someone else may need to step in about this since I've non had experience with that specific kind of thing.

I practice take a ton of devices - several handheld and panel gaming devices (all Nintendos), 5 phones, 3 tablets, 4 computers, a couple TVs, 4 Fire Sticks for TVs, 2 Echos, one i Ring doorbell device. All are connected by either 2.four or 5 GHz. No bug with seeing any device that needs to be seen by any other device on the other band. Because the router itself is the common connection. Even for the time I had one estimator directly connected to the router with the ethernet cable.

I'm amazed my router can even keep up, just information technology chugs right along. Less than one-half of those devices actually have a constant data flow. Well-nigh are only continued to be connected.

Simply no smart plugs anywhere for me, so I don't know if there could be some particular condition that kind of device requires.

Nonetheless, I still don't retrieve that should matter. If the app is on the phone, and the phone is on the network (regardless of which band), the app should see the smart plug as long as the smart plug is on the network. Aren't these things supposed to piece of work even if you go out the firm and the phone is only on your cellular network, once they initially see and connect with each other?

Have you tried just using the app to notice the plug? Is the app giving you some kind of error message about which band the phone is connected to?

The whole purpose of the app is to notice the plug and connect it to the wifi. That's why I don't know what is going on. I am going to uninstall the app and get-go over. Thanks for your help. We'll see what happens.

Mayhap make certain your router settings for the 5 and the ii.4 radios are not setup to be "smart", by broadcasting both those as i single mutual SSID.

Just to be clearer however, are yous having issues with your phone and the app finding the plug's own initial setup SSID, or are yous having problems getting the plug to connect to your home Wi-Fi'southward 2.4 SSID?

Past the way, some of these smart plugs and their "helpful setup apps" are actually more confusing than they have to exist. So, don't exist alarmed if some of it doesn't make perfect sense to you.

Perhaps make sure your router settings for the five and the two.4 radios are not setup to exist "smart", by broadcasting both those as ane unmarried common SSID.

For what information technology'southward worth - mine works perfectly fine set up as a "smart" configuration. I accept one device that still requires two.iv and it connects just fine and other devices can communicate with it.
@slider547 - if your phone tin't "encounter" the devices to set them upwardly I suggest seeing if at that place'southward some way to reset the devices, perchance they think they're configured for some reason? I don't experience like the router is coming into play but yet if y'all oasis't gotten a chance to configure the device to connect to your WiFi.
